man...you summed it up perfectly..if anything, the pageviews idea in dA is possible the worst part. also, if you gain enough pageviews in a day, you are guaranteed another few hundred thousand for free, thanks to the "today on Deviantart" thing that displays the top pageviews of the day, and of course everyone clicks the first artist on the list out of curiosity, adding more pageviews. but you are wrong after all, since although fanart-artists gain buckets of pageviews, those with original art sometimes get tens of thousands of pageviews in days, though truely that is more rare...hmmm

thats humanity after all, always strive to be the best, even when there is nothing to gain. hehe

That's fine. If you don't like somebody's art, the best thing to do is to just not say anything. I'm not sure why you make it such a point in pointing this out to me.

Do you not think that this will upset me, or do you have no feelings for others? Either way, it was trolling. But I digress.

I don't like pixel art, you don't like cartooning or Sonic art or whatever.

Many people say 'I'm entitled to my own opinion'. And granting that's true, you have to be constructive with your opinion. Saying "Your art sucks" or "You are not a good artist" is certainly not my idea of good critique.

Judging by your handling of the English language, you don't seem to suffer from a dearth of common sense(or at the very least, intelligence). That is why your little outburst puzzled me so.


But anyway.

I am not heavy into the Deviant Art community, so I am not up-to-date on the goings-on regarding DA's standpoints and trends. So none of that stuff concerns me whatsoever.

I'm just an ordinary guy who likes to draw Sonic art who enjoys doing what he does.

If others like to look at it, who am I to complain?

That is why I say it is best to draw for your own personal enjoyment and not for anybody else.

I don't agree on the last statement though. I'm heavily bothered everytime I read "where art meets application". That defintely is not dA. I could number many staments why this is wrong, but you don't deserve to read that, not on your front page.

You don't seem to be a normal Deviant Art troll, so your comment on my picture bewildered me a little bit.

Out of all the pieces of artwork out there, why choose mine to shower your DA-angst on?

I just checked the front page, and noticed that my image managed to get on there. I had no idea the picture was that popular.

Yes, I am a Sonic artist. I have always been such. Is it my fault that people enjoy seeing my art?

Fan art gets the most page views and favorites. This is a fact on how popularity operates.

Pop art will always generate more interest than originality. That doesn't mean it's better. It's just how it is.

I'm not saying it's right, but that's just they way it is. People like what they are familiar with.

I realize there are a lot of original artists out there who suffer because they want a shot at the spotlight, but instead people flock to the thousands of Naruto, Anime, or Sonic the Hedgehog artworks out there.

Page views are not a good way to gauge an artist's popularity. Keep in mind, that a lot of the reason people love fan art is because they are fans of the subject matter, and not the artwork in and of itself. I have been a victim of this as well.

I have done a few original pieces, or even fanarts that are not necessarily 'opular', and they don't get nearly as much traffic as my Sonic stuff.

So don't get huffy when you look at an artist's page views and notice that they have more than you do just because they do fan art.

If you have a problem with this, don't take it out on the artists who draw it. You are who you are, and we are who we are.

In short: Page views mean nothing.

Continue to enjoy making art and don't be bothered by such trifle things as 'opularity'. Your personal enjoyment is the most important thing, right?
